If I Ran the Zoo is a children’s book originally published in 1950 By Dr. Seuss (later renewed in 1977). Dr. Seuss called the book, ” If I got to the Zoo,” but then later changed the name before he published it.  In the book, it follows a child named Gerald McGrew, who visits the zoo and finds tons of exotic animals. Including a lion with ten feet and an imaginary one called a Fizza-ma-Wizza-ma Dill, which is the world’s largest bird from an island named “Gwark.” The illustrations also grow wilder as McGrew imagines going to increasingly remote and exotic habitats and capturing each fanciful creature, bringing them all back to a zoo now filled with his wild new animals.
